Frequently asked
What is Anchor98?
Anchor98 is a hand-maintained archival web index cataloguing 831 sites across 22 subject registers. It functions as a finding aid for the contemporary web, providing a stable, organized reference point for discovering active online resources by subject area.
Is it free to have my site included?
Yes. Accession into the Anchor98 index carries no charge. Site owners submit a URL and brief description via the Add a Site form; accepted submissions are assigned to the appropriate register at no cost.
How are sites organized within the index?
The index is divided into 22 named subject registers, ranging from Fiscal Holdings and Medical Holdings to the Tradesmen's Registry, Technical Archives, and General Repository. Each submitted site is assigned to the register that best matches its declared primary activity.
How do I submit my site for inclusion?
Use the Add a Site page to provide your site's URL, a brief description, and select the subject register you believe is most appropriate. The editorial team reviews submissions and assigns final classification before accession.
How long does review take after submission?
Review times vary depending on submission volume. Most accessions are processed within a few days. You will be able to find your site in the index once it has passed review and been formally accessioned.
Can I update my listing after it has been accessioned?
To amend an existing accession record — for example, to update a URL or description — contact the Anchor98 editorial desk via the details provided on the About page. We aim to keep records current and accurate.
Does Anchor98 cover every website on the internet?
No. The index contains only sites that have been submitted and accepted through the accession process. Coverage reflects submission volume across subject areas rather than a comprehensive enumeration of the web. The General Repository holds entries not suited to the 21 named subject registers.
